A healthy sixteen embarked on the pursuit of the U130 title. At the end of day 1 Newcastle's John Day and Nic Wright shared the lead with Holmes Chapel's ben Scattergood on 2½/3, with Brian Birchall (Alsager) and Dave Price (Holmes Chapel a further half-point back. Dave took a point and a half out of the Newcastle pair on Sunday, so scuppering their chances. This was 1½ points more than he looked like getting at some stages in these games - maybe he has been taking lessons from RR. Ben and Brian meanwhile secured two wins each to take the top two places. Also scoring two on the Sunday was Pete Shaw, thereby securing the kangaroo prize. Neville Jones and Stuart Hull were unable to play on Sunday.
