It's a chess congress. You weren't expecting to see lots of happy smiling faces were you? From the left Ernest Wilkinson, Pete Tideswell and Sandra Blackburn face the camera.
Karol appropiately in splendid isolation, as that is how he finished.
Alex Cartlidge
Pete Shaw
At 5.30 on Friday I was hoping for an eleven player section; by the time I left home on Saturday morning the entry had shrunk to eight. Unfortunately only seven showed thanks to the Lesser Spotted Sam living down to his name. Results were kind to me and I was able to make a sensible last round draw in which the leader Karol Grzybowski was paired with his nearest rival Peter Shaw. If you have the patience to listen to an ancient mariner's tale I'm sure Pete will explain to you how he pulled defeat from the jaws of victory.
