Carl wins the posing prize for the U100 section, pictured here relaxing after his hard work is complete for the weekend. Amazingly one of his games didn't end in a draw. |
Alex and Joshua were quickest out of the blocks, being the only players to reach 2/2. Their round three head to head was indecisive, but on the Sunday Alex' play was the more penetrating, scoring two further wins to Joshuas draws.
Carl, one of the joint thirds in this eleven player section was also unbeaten, though his overall play lacked the zest of the juniors. With the leading places filled by juniors the junior prize was to be allocated elsewhere. Jack played an excellent final round game to draw level with Liam, but lost out on the junior title on sum of progressive scores. However with Jack winning the Kangaroo prize (others more mundanely call it the slow starter prize), he and Liam found themselves recipients of equally valuable envelopes.
No hints of tantrums or withdrawals, this group of players have the staying power to gain lasting satisfaction from the game - some will not be eligible for this section for long.
