Newcastle Mini Congress U165 section


From the left Ryan, John W and John D have white against Michael, Stephane and Alan respectively.
An intrepid six embarked on an all play all, except that Michael wanted a half point bye on Sunday morning. The draw was fiddled so that the bottom seed got the full point bye and also so that the Newport players met on Saturday evening so they wouldn't have to wait for each other if travelling together.

Michael had to contend with a foot injury, but whether this caused him to be laid back or laid up is not clear. He did however play some sparkling chess to end up on top of the pile.

John Day operated in his 'they shall not pass' mode, and secured four draws. John Wunderle did not look at all out of place despite being eligible for a lower section.
