Sunday morning and its as quiet as a church as David Price takes on Julian Hawthorne in an U130 match, with beyond them Simon Layhe, Richard Martin and Edward Day having white respectively against a somewhat distracted Les Hall, Robert Perry, and Pete Tideswell. |
Robert Perry and Stuart Green in deep concentration against Simon Layhe and a temporarily absent Edward Day respectively. |
The U100 section looked destined for 8 starters, but a pre-event withdrawal left just seven. Unfortunately Stuart Green was still suffering the afterr effects of a bug and felt it best to withdraw after the first day.
Simon Layhe proved to be the class act in the field, being the only player across all four sections to achieve 100%. The rest had to be satisfied with tales of "if only" and "what if".
Finisher's scores:
5: Simon Layhe, 3: Les Hall & Robert Perry
2½: Richard Martin & Pete Tideswell, 1: Edward Day
The U130 game between Nic Wright and Pete Shaw is in the foreground. Beyond Nic Simon Layhe, Les Hall, Pete Tideswell and Edward Day have the white pieces against Richard Martin, Robert Perry and the somewhat obscured Stuart Green and Steve Emmerton who had kindly agreed to act as a round two filler. |
