Newcastle Mini Congress U120 section

The camera never lies...
... but I can arrange for it to distort the truth!

Illness before and during the congress reduced the size of this section, which caused pairing problems in the late rounds when the only players not to have claimed a ½ point bye or given a full point one were all in contention for prizes. By the end, John Day was the only unbeaten player, but his two draws enabled Andy Stott to grab a share of the spoils.

Andy v The Newcastle Hordes
Sunday morning finds Andy (almost hidden, right) surrounded by Newcastle players James, Paul, Pete, Nic and John (clockwise around the table from Andy).
Left: Newcastle C and B team captains John (rear) and Nic take time out to do a little reconnaissance, spying on Megan's game.

Leading Scores

1 - 2 John Day (Newcastle), Andy Stott (Fenton) 4 points
     3 Pete Shaw (Newcastle) 3½
4 - 6 Nic Wright, Paul Clapham, James Rothwell (all Newcastle) 3
7 - 10 Alan Thomason (Broughton Arms), Stephen Lloyd (Chester), Sandra Blackburn (Holmes Chapel), Megan Moruzzi (Cheddleton) 2½

Who has the better pedigree -
Joint winner Andy Stott (far left) or Paul Clapham?
James is too engrossed in his own game to care.
